VHLX 2022

Catalina is excited to bridge the gap between digital and physical apparel commerce – and solve sustainability issues at the intersection of fashion, retail, and technology.Catalina is an immigrant originally from Barranquilla, Colombia. She co-founded Modi with her two sisters to solve the apparel industry’s massive problem of returns due to poor fit, which currently creates 5 billion pounds of landfill waste and 15 tons of metric carbon emissions annually. Modi’s technology empowers shoppers to find their best fit with a personalized virtual fitting experience. Embedded directly on apparel retailer’s ecommerce site, our AI models capture shopper’s actual body measurements to calculate accurate size recommendations.Prior to founding Modi, her passion for creative problem solving and environmental sustainability led her to study Textile Technology at North Carolina State University’s Wilson College of Textiles. She has worked alongside product developers and designers at Patagonia, Vans, and Brooks to bring new textiles and materials to market. Through her time abroad in Asia, Catalina spent time at factories and mills working directly with global suppliers to gain an in-depth understanding of the complex manufacturing supply chain. As a life-long learner, Catalina looks forward to using her skills and experiences to foster a more inclusive and sustainable fashion industry.
