Kaitlyn Carter

New York, NY
Visionaries 2021
Kaitlyn's mission is to expand access to opportunities for socioeconomic independence, especially for Africans, home and abroad.

Kaitlyn Carter is a software engineer and an advocate for both mental health and diversity in tech. From 2015 to 2020, Kaitlyn was a software engineer and peer mentor at Medium with roles on the publication, recommendation, and trust and safety team. Her most well known body of work being on the trust and safety team where she worked to solve abuse on the platform by creating tools and testing out industry strategies to combat spam and harassment. She’s taken products from early prototype to launch day while consistently centering vulnerable communities. Through these successes she’s developed a non-traditional, empathetic philosophy about the path we take to make products that shine. Outside of work, Kaitlyn is a board adviser for CODE2040, a non-profit whose mission is to activate, connect, and mobilize the largest racial equity community in tech to dismantle the structural barriers that prevent the full participation and leadership of Black and Latinx people in the innovation economy. Catch her tweeting (and say hi!) @xkaitlyncarter about her dog, javascript, mental health, and diversity in tech.
